Today, the Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, announced that a Conservative government will commit to getting the Green Line light rail transit (LRT) project built.
“Calgarians need reliable access to public transit – and that’s exactly what a Conservative government will deliver,” said O’Toole. “I am proud to support a project that will create jobs in a community that has been hit hard by both an economic and health crisis, and ensure we fuel a strong recovery for the city.”
The Green Line has been a project of importance for Conservatives for nearly a decade. It is unacceptable that, since the previous Conservative government’s initial announcement of a $1.5-billion commitment to this project in 2015, the Green Line has been dramatically reduced in scope and costs have ballooned due to inaction by the Trudeau government.
Through Canada’s Recovery Plan, Canada’s Conservatives will come to the table with federal funding for the next Calgary city council if they can bring a plan on the Green Line that:
The proposed Green Line project will connect homes and jobs by serving areas in the community where people are buying homes. The project will also reduce the number of cars on the road and make life more affordable for those who commute, while also creating jobs for Calgarians.
“Canada’s Recovery Plan makes a clear commitment to support public transit infrastructure to connect our cities,” said O’Toole. “It was our former Conservative government that invested heavily in this project, and we will get the job done.”
Secure the future, help elect Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives and get Canada’s economy back on track.
