Canada’s Conservatives commit to Edmonton LRT

Today, the Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, announced that a Conservative government will commit funding for the Capital Line South extension and Phase 2 of the Metro Line expansion to get the city moving.

“Canada’s Conservatives will get shovels in the ground and deliver more transit service for growing communities in Edmonton,” said O’Toole. “Through Canada’s Recovery Plan, I am proud to support the Capital Line and Metro Line extensions that will create thousands of jobs and secure the future for the people of Edmonton and beyond.”

With Canada’s Recovery Plan, a Conservative government will immediately prioritize the extension of the Metro Line from Blatchford to Castle Downs. This project will connect commuters to the city centre and other key destinations in Edmonton, and improve access to growing neighbourhoods.

Canada’s Conservatives will also honour federal commitments to deliver the 4.5- kilometre Capital Line extension from Century Park to Ellerslie Road, along with two permanent light rail transit (LRT) stations, a light rail vehicle storage and maintenance facility, and the purchase of 24 electric-powered light rail vehicles.

“A Conservative government will deliver the world-class transit system Edmonton deserves, while creating jobs, reducing congestion, and increasing access to more job opportunities and housing for workers and families,” O’Toole said. “Only Canada’s Conservatives have a plan to deliver the world-class public transit needed to fuel Edmonton’s recovery.”
